Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is an experiential approach to teaching life skills like, leadership, communication and team work using horses. Our workshop is an objective based learning workshop where participants work on the ground with horses through carefully designed objective based obstacles and problem-solving exercises.
Horses help to build self-esteem and self-confidence. They also can inspire people to pursue their goals and aspirations. The horses provide instant honest feedback when we work with them. When we learn how to communicate, lead and work effectively with the horses, we learn how to build social skills. Therefore, which in turn helps people of all ages improve their relationships with family, peers and their community.
Equine Assisted Learning is regulated by various professional organizations and may be offered by certified practitioners who have undergone specific training and accreditation in equine-assisted interventions.
The work is facilitated by professionals who have training and certifications that qualify them to work safely with horses. They have knowledge and skill in experiential learning methods and have been trained in facilitation. The highly trained facilitators offer safe, life skill directed sessions for their clients and students. Each member of the team has the necessary skills to work with the type of individual or group in the workshop. We will follow protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of our participants throughout every interaction with the horses.
The horses used in EAL are carefully selected and trained to interact safely with humans and to provide appropriate responses during the learning activities.
Equine Assisted Learning sessions can be individual or group sessions. Each session involves a horse interaction facilitated by the professional or professional team. All of our workshops work on the ground alongside the horses. Often the activities are problem solving based, relationship building or focused on critical thinking skills. Though participants can learn horsemanship skills through the sessions, it is usually not the primary goal. Most goals are focused on the development of life skills.
We work with licensed and certified equine assisted learning facilitators who are trained to help clients achieve specific goals using a range of equine-assisted learning activities.
While EAL is not a substitute for therapy, it can have therapeutic benefits. The activities with horses can promote emotional regulation, stress reduction and personal insight but it is not a replacement for professional counseling or therapy.
Yes, there are certain safety requirements when it comes to clothing. Simple things like closed-toe shoes and wearing comfortable clothes where you don’t mind a little dust.
No prior horse experience is necessary to participate in EAL. The focus is on the interactions and activities with the horses, rather than riding them.
